CTOnews.com February 10 news, as early as October last year, Microsoft announced a public preview of the locally deployed UUP (Unified Update Platform, unified update platform), promising faster and smaller downloads of Windows updates. Now, Microsoft says the feature is almost ready for release, as the first UUP local deployment update will be released on March 28.

In the update workflow chart, Microsoft explains how UUP reduces the update download size of client-side PC after the initial one-off addition of 10GB in the case of Windows 11 22H2 function updating distribution points.

CTOnews.com learned that with the help of UUP, Microsoft promised to reduce downloads by up to 30 per cent, thereby speeding up downloads. Other improvements include accumulation and functional update integration, which means less restart time, reduced client downloads, and so on. In a blog post on the technology community, Thad Martin, Microsoft's chief project manager, explains the advantages of UUP and outlines all the improvements expected from it:

"additional basic 10GB support at the distribution point enables new UUP features. The same basic improvements we have made in multiple versions are now available to enterprises with UUP local update management. In short, users will experience faster quality and feature updates, smaller size, less disk space and usage, and fewer restarts:

Client downloads for quality updates are reduced by up to 30%

Integration with cumulative updates of feature updates (get the latest information in a reboot)

Seamlessly retain installed language packs and optional features (FOD) during feature updates

Reduce client downloads of feature updates (built-in application downloads are conditional) automatic operating system fixes during updates

End users get language packs and FOD "

The following is the previous UUP deployment roadmap, which will be deployed to all Windows 11 updates in 2023.

There have been recent reports that slow download and installation speeds have also plagued Windows 11 Insider preview updates, especially the Dev channel version. Microsoft said it was actively investigating the issue, and in the latest version of Dev Channel, Microsoft said it had resolved the issue of "longer update time than expected."
