Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--

CTOnews.com, February 10, according to the latest Mercury Research research report, AMD now accounts for nearly 1/3 of the CPU market, while the growth rate of chips based on Arm architecture in the PC market has slowed since the fourth quarter of 2022.

Intel's share of the x86 processor market was 68.7% in the fourth quarter of 2022, while AMD was 31.3%, up from 28.5% in the same period last year, according to Mercury Research.

Analysts point out that AMD's market share has risen all the way since the launch of Ruilong, and has now taken a lot of market share from Intel, which is still the so-called x86 market leader.

Dean Dean McCarron, president of Mercury Research, said it was the worst period for the PC chip market since the 1980s and possibly the worst in the industry's history.

He pointed out that after snapping up PC to work from home during the outbreak, consumers and businesses slowed down the pace of replacing new machines in the face of rising inflation and economic uncertainty.

But the slowdown in the global market has had a different impact on AMD and Intel. AMD last month beat Wall Street's expectations, while Intel admitted it was "stumbling" in competition with its long-time competitors and was forced to take a big pay cut.

In addition, the decline in PC sales has also affected Apple's Mac series, which is currently the main source of Arm sales in the PC chip market.

Mercury said that Arm PC chips, driven by Apple's own chips and with the help of Qualcomm's recent introduction of chips, now account for 13.3% of the PC chip market, up from 10.3% a year ago, but down from 14.6% in the previous quarter.

Tuyuan Pixabay, as CTOnews.com reported last month, Intel's fourth-quarter results disappointed the outside world, not only a sharp drop in profits, but also a change from profit to loss under US general accounting standards, resulting in a net loss of US $700 million, and annual revenue of US $63.1 billion, which is also far less than that of 2021.

In the earnings report, Intel expects first-quarter revenue of $105-11.5 billion, gross margin under GAAP is expected to be 34.1%, and non-GAAP is expected to be 39%.

In the first quarter of 2022, Intel had revenues of $18.4 billion and a gross margin of more than 50 per cent. They forecast revenue of $105-11.5 billion in the first quarter of this year, down $69-7.9 billion from a year earlier and down more than 37% from a year earlier.

According to Intel's previous results, after year-on-year growth in the fourth quarter of 2021, their revenue declined in all four quarters of last year. In the first quarter of last year, Intel's revenue was $18.4 billion, down from a year earlier; the $15.3 billion in the following two quarters fell sharply from a year earlier.
