Beijing, February 10 (Xinhua)-- the U.S. Department of Transportation said on Thursday that it was investigating Neuralink, the brain-computer interface company of Elon Musk, because the company may have illegally transported dangerous pathogens.

The Committee of responsible Medical Physicians (PCRM), an Neuralink animal welfare advocacy group, wrote to U.S. Secretary of Transportation Peter Pete Buttigieg earlier Thursday to remind Mr. Boutigig of the records they obtained on the incident. PCRM said emails and other documents they obtained showed that implants taken from monkeys' brains by Neuralink were unsafely packaged and transported, possibly carrying infectious diseases, in violation of federal law.

A spokesman for the Department of Transportation said the Department of Transportation took PCRM's allegations "very seriously". "We are conducting an investigation to ensure that Neuralink fully complies with federal regulations and to protect their employees and the public from potentially dangerous pathogens." The spokesman said.

This is the latest federal investigation into Neuralink. Media reported in December last year that Neuralink was under investigation by the USDA for alleged violations of animal welfare. Inside Neuralink, employees complain that the company's animal experiments are in such a hurry, causing unnecessary pain and death. Mr Musk and Neuralink have not commented.
