Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--
On February 9, according to foreign media reports, Tesla disclosed in his filing with the US Securities and Exchange Commission that as of December 31 last year, they and their subsidiaries had a total of 127855 full-time employees worldwide, up from 99290 at the end of 2021, an increase of 28565.
As we all know, Tesla had a layoff last year, and a number of employees and management left Tesla in that layoff, and their full-time staff significantly increased last year, which means that they hired more new employees last year than those who left during layoffs or for other reasons.
Tesla had the news of layoffs in the middle of the year, Tesla layoffs appeared in early June, when several foreign media reported that CEO Musk had sent an email entitled "suspension of global recruitment" to company executives on June 2, saying that he would cut about 10 per cent of staff and suspend global recruitment. Based on the number of employees at the end of 2021, a 10% layoff means that nearly 10,000 employees will be affected.
However, there was more news about Tesla's layoffs, with foreign media reporting that Musk sent an email to all employees after writing to senior executives, informing them of more details.
Judging from the e-mails obtained by some foreign media at that time, Tesla laid off about 10% of his employees, not 10% of all employees, but about 10% of salaried employees. Musk said in the email that the layoffs were because they had too many employees in many areas.
However, Musk also disclosed in the email that their layoffs will not affect the production of electric vehicles. In his email, he stressed that the layoffs do not apply to any employees who actually produce cars, battery packs or install solar products. This means that Musk's planned layoffs will not involve front-line production personnel.
Tesla's layoff plan was also launched soon after it was written that employees would cut about 10 per cent of their salaried staff. In mid-June, foreign media found on LinkedIn that more than 10 management staff confirmed that they had been fired by Tesla, including an employee who had worked for more than 6 years. Tesla's first manager in Singapore, Christopher Bousigues, also disclosed on LinkedIn that his position had been cut by Tesla as part of the layoffs. He joined Tesla in June 2021 as the manager of the Singapore branch. From joining to being laid off, he worked at Tesla for only one year.
However, Tesla did not disclose the specific number of layoffs in the middle of the year, and foreign media did not give relevant figures in their reports, but in any case, the number of salaried employees who will be cut by about 10 per cent is not expected to be small.
The new plant needs more workers after layoffs, Tesla's staff has increased significantly, most likely related to the new super factories in Berlin and Texas that opened last year.
The Tesla Berlin Super Factory, located in Glenhead, Brandenburg, on the outskirts of Berlin, announced construction in November 2019, followed by construction soon. After years of construction and a lengthy approval process, a grand opening ceremony was held on March 22, 2022, and the production of Model Y began to be delivered to users.
Tesla's super factory in Berlin is expected to employ more than 10000 people after it is fully put into production. At the time of initial production, foreign media are expected to need 7000 employees.
▲ Tesla Berlin Super Factory in March 2021, it was reported that Tesla had begun a large-scale recruitment for this super factory, releasing 28 kinds of recruitment messages in three days, involving many categories, such as human resources, construction, engineering, information technology, etc., but the real large-scale recruitment is expected to be at the beginning of last year. It was held before the opening ceremony of the factory. In early March, foreign media reported that recruitment was accelerating, with a large number of jobs in manufacturing, supply chain, engineering and information technology under way, with more than 50 jobs in Glenhead, Brandenburg, according to the official website.
In mid-June last year, nearly three months after the plant went into production, J ö rg Steinbach, economy minister of Brandenburg, where the factory is located, revealed in an interview that the Tesla Berlin super factory already employs 4100-4500 people and is still hiring at a rate of 500-600 a month. In August, J ö rg Steinbach revealed that, as far as he knew, the superfactory's workforce was still growing as planned, and Tesla became the largest industrial employer in Brandenburg.
Shortly after the opening of the Berlin super factory, Tesla announced the construction of the Texas super factory in July 2020. After more than a year of construction, the Texas super factory also held the opening ceremony on April 7 last year, and the production of Model Y also began to be delivered to users.
▲ Tesla Texas superfactory, although the number of employees of this superfactory is not yet clear, it is expected to have thousands of employees at the Berlin superfactory, which also started production last year, and the Texas superfactory, which also produces Model Y models.
According to foreign media reports, in addition to producing Model Y vehicles, Tesla also has a battery production line in the Texas super factory. The first batch of 4680 batteries was produced in July last year, and plans to increase production capacity in the third quarter, which means that in addition to the employees who produce cars, they also need employees who produce batteries.
As the capacity of the Berlin super-factory and the Texas super-factory is still increasing, the demand for employees is also increasing, just as the employees of the Berlin super-factory are increasing as planned, the staff of the Texas super-factory is also expected to continue to increase after it is put into production.
Employees at other factories are also expected to increase, in addition to the Berlin and Texas superfactories that opened last year, Tesla's full-vehicle factories, as well as the Fremont, Calif., and Shanghai superfactories. The production capacity of the two plants is also increasing, and demand for employees is expected to increase.
As Tesla's first vehicle factory and the plant with the largest number of models, the Fremont plant in California has basically made full use of its space, and the increase in production capacity is slower than that of other factories. however, the capacity of the plant increased last year, with an annual production capacity of 650000 electric vehicles by the end of the year, an increase of 50, 000 from 600000 at the end of 2021.
▲ Tesla Shanghai Super Factory is Tesla's second vehicle factory and their first vehicle factory outside the United States. the first phase will be completed and put into production in 2019, the second phase will begin construction in 2020, and the production of Model Y will begin delivery in January 2021. Last year, Tesla also optimized the production line of the Shanghai super factory and increased production capacity. The factory had the capacity to produce 750000 electric vehicles a year by the end of the year, up from 450000 at the end of 2021.
In addition, Tesla also last year, in Nevada super factory trial production of the electric truck Semi, the first was delivered in December, the production of this car also needs certain employees.
Tesla employees are expected to continue to increase this year. Amazon, Microsoft, Google parent company Alphabet, Dell and other companies have all announced large-scale layoffs, and some companies have even laid off more than 10,000 employees.
However, in the context of a number of companies announcing layoffs, consumers still have a strong demand for Tesla's electric cars, and they still have a large number of orders to be completed. With the increase in factory capacity, in particular, with the further increase in the production capacity of Berlin super-factories and Texas super-factories, their employees will also further increase.
In addition, Tesla also disclosed in the financial report that they still plan to start producing the electric pickup truck Cybertruck in the Texas superfactory later this year. A large number of people will also be needed to build a production line and start production for this electric vehicle. 4680 the increase in battery production also requires more personnel.
