CTOnews.com, February 9, BitTorrent client Transmission released version 4.0 today, with a number of changes and updates, including support for Apple's native Apple Silicon chip.

With Transmission 4, clients no longer run x86 applications over Rosetta on Mac with Apple M1 or M2 chips. It is now a generic binary, so it can run natively on all Apple Silicon Mac.

There are also some UI design changes to match the latest version of macOS, and developers modernize the code by migrating from C90 to Modern C++. CTOnews.com has learned that program resource efficiency has also been improved, so applications can now consume less memory and CPU.

New feature highlights include support for using BitTorrent v2 and mixed format torrent files, users can now set the "default" tracker for all public torrent, and the option to omit potential identification information (such as user agent and creation date) when adding a new torrent.

The newly added torrent can now start immediately and validate fragments on demand, rather than fully validating prior to creation, and the Web client has been rewritten to support mobile use. When creating a new torrent, the user can now also specify the fragment size, and now supports IPv6 blacklists.
