Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--

CTOnews.com, February 9 (Xinhua)-- according to the latest report released today by market research firm Barracuda, 75% of the organizations surveyed have experienced at least one successful email attack in the past 12 months.

The study, conducted by Vanson Bourne, found that it costs an organization an average of $1 million to recover after an email-based security attack. 69% of ransomware attacks start with e-mail.

Financial services organizations are the favorite targets of hackers, with 59 per cent of respondents in the industry saying the biggest impact was the loss of valuable data; 51 per cent of the organizations surveyed lost a lot of money. For health care institutions, 44% of the organizations surveyed said that the recovery costs involved in getting the system up and running again had the greatest impact.

Don MacLennan, senior vice president of protection engineering and product management at Barracuda, wrote in the article that CTOnews.com translated as follows:

E-mail is a reliable and ubiquitous channel of communication, which makes it an attractive target for cyber criminals. We expect email-based attacks to become more and more complex, using artificial intelligence and advanced social engineering to obtain the data or access they want and evade security measures.

Email-based attacks involve ransomware, information theft programs, spyware, encryption mining, other malware, and so on. Increased awareness and understanding of email risks and the strong protection needed to maintain security will be key to protecting the organization and its employees in 2023 and beyond.
