According to CTOnews.com on February 9, Andrej Karpathy, Tesla's former director of artificial intelligence, announced that he would join OpenAI, the company's recently launched ChatGPT chat robot fire. It is worth mentioning that OpenAI was originally a non-profit organization co-founded by Tesla CEO Elon-Musk.

Karpathy joined Tesla more than five years ago as an expert in neural networks and computer vision. CTOnews.com learned that when he joined, Tesla was transitioning from using Mobileye technology to achieve driving assistance to his own computer vision system.

Karpathy was praised for building Tesla's machine learning and computer vision team, and was quickly promoted as an important part of Tesla's autopilot team and the development of a fully autopilot system. As Tesla expanded his autopilot to a wider range of artificial intelligence, Karpathy was subsequently promoted to Tesla's senior director of artificial intelligence.

In March 2022, Karpathy announced that he would take four months off, setting the stage for his departure, as Tesla's executive break often resulted in not returning to the company. Sure enough, Karpathy announced in July last year that he would not return to Tesla. Karpathy is highly respected in the artificial intelligence community and is considered to have greatly helped Tesla's recruitment in this field, and his departure is considered a big loss for Tesla.

A few months ago, Karpathy said he would consider returning to Tesla at some point, but today he announced that he would join OpenAI. Interestingly, OpenAI was originally co-founded by Tesla CEO Elon Musk as a non-profit organization, and Musk left the board of OpenAI in 2018.
