Phoronix is tested on a System76 Thelio Major workstation with a pre-installed AMD Ryzen Threadripper 3990X HEDT processor. The processor has 64 cores and 128 threads. Although it is based on the Zen 2 architecture, it still has strong multithreading capabilities.

The Linux system has significantly optimized the performance of the AMD processor over the past three years, and Phoronix was tested using the 2020 Popper processor OS system and Ubuntu 22.04 LTS stable version.

The results show that Vulkan and driver further optimize the performance of AMD Ryzen processor, Linux system optimizes API, and can call the core and thread of AMD more fully.

The AlexNet Vulkan General Neural Network inference Framework (ncnn) benchmark has improved by 444.7% compared to when CPU was first released in 2020. At the same time, other ncnn tests showed nearly 175% improvement or nearly three times the performance improvement.

Phoronix conducted a total of 135 tests. In terms of the geometric mean of all the results, it is found that the new Linux PC is nearly 15% faster, which is quite a lot considering that there are so many tests.
