In 2014, Sony launched the alpha 6000 and alpha 5100 with 4D focus technology. With its compact fuselage, excellent focusing, continuous shooting performance and relatively people-friendly prices, α 6000 and α 5100 quickly become hot-selling products in the market. After that, Sony launched the α 6300 with outstanding video parameters and the built-in 5-axis anti-shake α 6500 to further expand its market share.

In 2019, Sony launched α 6400, α 6100 and α 6600 one after another, which further improved the focusing performance. However, these products are standing still in terms of effective pixels, continuous shooting speed, video capabilities, screen specifications and storage performance. Although the α 6400 and the reduced α 6100 are still popular, Sony obviously pays less attention to APS-C pictures than Fuji and Canon during this period.

From 2020 to 2022, Sony only released an APS-C picture sheet for the ZV-E10, a positioning Vlog camera. And due to the shortage of semiconductor parts, α 6100 stopped production and α 6400 and α 6600 were once out of stock. Today, although the supply of α 6400 has been restored, the market is not as hot as it used to be. The price of 6299 yuan for a single machine and 6799 yuan for a set of machines is also lack of competitiveness compared with Canon EOS R10 and other new products.

Last year, Sony also launched three new E-card APS-C picture lenses. I just don't know if I can see the follow-up models of the 6x00 series or the rumored "α 7000" in my lifetime.

The product overview begins with a description of Sony's product name: take α 6400 as an example, the product name is officially written as α 6400 (the initial letter is Greek alpha rather than the lowercase a) or Alpha 6400, while "folk" is written as A6400. The prefix with "ILCE" is the product model. ILCE-6400 refers to a single body, ILCE-6400L refers to a set containing a SELP1650 lens, and ILCE-6400M refers to a set containing a SEL18135 lens (another Y suffix indicates a dual lens cover containing SELP1650 and SEL55210).

2014: α 6000

The first product in the 6x00 series, which determines a performance benchmark of about 2400 megapixels, 4D focus and up to 11 shots per second.

Note: there are hidden dangers in the bayonets of early Sony micro-orders such as α 6000. After long-term use, especially with long lenses and heavy lenses, it may not be able to identify the lens due to poor contact. Users can solve this problem by purchasing and replacing metal bayonet assemblies.

2016: Alpha 6300 and α 6500

A new copper-connected sensor supports eye priority focus, mute shooting and mute continuous shooting under AF-C, 4K 30p video and S-Log 2Cool 3. The α 6500 not only has a built-in 5-axis anti-shake body, but also expands the cache capacity and supports touch focus.

2019: α 6400, α 6100 and α 6600

Compared with α 6300 and α 6500, the focusing performance of α 6100 / α 6400 / α 6600 is further enhanced. In addition to supporting real-time tracking of AF and animal eye AF, α 6600 also implements human eye first AF under video. All three products feature a 180 °flip screen and support touch focus, and the α 6600 also adds 3.5mm audio output for monitoring.

* Sony Micro single has cancelled the camera App function since 2017, and α 6100 / α 6400 / α 6600 is no exception.
