Thanks to CTOnews.com netizens and soft media users for 1117255 clue delivery! CTOnews.com, February 8, according to the official release of Dongguan Telecom, as the global IPv4 public network resources are nearly exhausted, in order to better serve the broad masses of broadband users, the company will optimize the IP address allocation mechanism for ordinary broadband users from now on, and no longer provide direct dynamic public network IPv4 address service for newly installed ordinary broadband users and stock private network dual-stack users.

Last year, China Telecom Shenzhen Branch announced that it would stop providing ordinary broadband public network IPv4 address service. Previously, a number of operators have announced that they will stop providing public network IPv4 addresses to ordinary broadband users and instead provide only dynamic IPv6 addresses.

IP address is an important basic resource of the Internet, and it is the basis of identification and data transmission of each system of the Internet. IPv4 (Internet Protocol version 4) supports the vigorous development of the Internet. The address length is 32 bits and can provide about 4 billion addresses. By the end of 2019, "4.3 billion IPv4 addresses have been officially allocated worldwide."

IPv6 can provide as many as 2 to the 128th power of addresses, which can "allocate every grain of sand in the world to an IP address" to comprehensively solve the problem of IP address exhaustion.

CTOnews.com learned that by August 2022, the number of IPv6 (Internet Protocol version 6) active users in China had reached 713.7 million, accounting for 67.9% of the total Internet users, an increase of 29.5% over the same period last year, exceeding the global average growth level.
