At one point, orders peaked at about 450, with customers including Japan's two major airline operators, all Nippon Airways Holdings and Japan Airlines.

SpaceJet's research and development process was bumpy, and the company was scheduled to deliver its first aircraft in 2013, but it was repeatedly delayed due to technical problems. Research and development funding has been cut again and again until the project is suspended in October 2020.
