To the confusion of users, users have not enabled Bitlocker key operation before, nor have they used Bitlocker before.

BitLocker is a Windows encryption technology that protects data from unauthorized access by encrypting the drive and requiring one or more authentication factors to unlock the drive.

Windows requires BitLocker to recover the key when it detects possible unauthorized attempts to access data. This extra step is a security precaution designed to ensure the security of the data.

This can also happen if changes are made in hardware, firmware, or software that BitLocker is indistinguishable from possible attacks.

The BitLocker recovery key is the only 48-digit password that can be used to unlock the system if BitLocker cannot confirm that the attempt to access the system drive has been authorized.

One of the users reported that this was automatically enabled by the manufacturer at the factory, but the user did not know the BitLocker recovery key, which meant that the user might not be able to find the unlocked key once locked.

Starting with Windows 8.1, Windows automatically enables BitLocker device encryption on devices that support new standby. With Windows 11 and Windows 10, Microsoft provides BitLocker device encryption support on a wider range of devices, including new standby devices, as well as devices running home Windows 10 or Windows 11.

For Win10 / Win11 Home Edition users, after experiencing BitLocker device encryption, the worst-case scenario is to reinstall the system.

Microsoft recommends that all supported systems automatically enable BitLocker device encryption. However, you can block the automatic BitLocker device encryption process by changing the following registry settings:

Subkey: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ SYSTEM\ CurrentControlSet\ Control\ BitLocker

Type: REG_DWORD

Value: PreventDeviceEncryption equals 1 (True)

Administrators can manage joined domain devices that enable BitLocker device encryption through Microsoft BitLocker Management and Monitoring (MBAM). In this case, BitLocker device encryption automatically provides additional BitLocker options. No translation or encryption is required, and if any configuration changes are required, MBAM can manage the complete BitLocker policy set.
