CTOnews.com, February 7 (Xinhua)-- Western Digital, the fourth largest company in the global NAND flash memory market, announced that it will further reduce equipment investment and production while the memory semiconductor industry remains in the doldrums, South Korean media Business Korea reported.

On January 31, Western Digital said on the fourth quarter 2022 results conference call that total equipment investment in fiscal 2023 will reach $2.3 billion (currently about 15.617 billion yuan).

According to CTOnews.com, this figure is 14.8% lower than the $2.7 billion disclosed in October 2022 (currently about 18.333 billion yuan) and 28.12% less than the $3.2 billion (currently about 21.728 billion yuan) announced in August 2022.

Western Digital said it would reduce NAND flash wafer production by 30 per cent. This is also the first time that Western Digital has announced a production reduction.

In terms of market share, Western Digital has a 12.6% share of the global NAND flash memory market, ranking fourth behind Samsung Electronics, Armor and SK Hynix.
