CTOnews.com, February 7 (Xinhua)-- game developer Square Enix said in its latest report that a total of 35 games were launched in fiscal year 2022, with sales down 7% compared with the previous period.

Officials say the decline in sales was affected by a number of factors, including the poor performance of HD games, with net sales down 11.3 per cent. CTOnews.com found that its mobile and PC web games also declined, with net sales of 85.7 billion yen, down 12.4% from a year earlier.

A key reason for the decline in sales is that the company did not launch a new final Fantasy in fiscal year 2022. The company released several major games last fiscal year, including the much-anticipated expansion final Fantasy XIV: the end of the Moon, and final Fantasy 7 remake for PC and PlayStation 5. The release of these games significantly increased the company's net sales, but there were no such games in 2022.
