CTOnews.com February 7 news, Intel announced yesterday that it will release the Sapphire Rapids Xeon Xeon W3400Comp2400 series processors on February 16. Before the official release, the 24-core Xeon W7-3455 processor had appeared in V-Ray, but the performance was slightly disappointing.

As can be seen from the V-Ray screenshot shared by HXL, the 24-core Xeon W7-3455 performance is lower than that of Zen3-based Threadripper Pro 5965WX, but the former consumes less power.

Xeon W7-3455 scored 26175 points (average) in V-Ray, and the core frequency was 3.08GHz. In order to give CTOnews.com users a more intuitive comparison, the scores of i9-13900K and Ryzen 9 7950X are attached here, which are about 29000. This clearly indicates the poor performance of Xeon CPU and may also be an early engineering sample.

On the other hand, the Threadripper Pro 5965WX score is 30700. In other words, AMD's previous generation is 15% faster than Intel's next-generation workstation CPU.

The Xeon W7-3455 will be equipped with 24 cores / 48 threads and with 67.5MB 's L3 cache. The basic clock and Boost clock are 2.5GHz and 4.8GHz, respectively. As a WMel 3400 product, it will adopt a multi-chip design based on Intel 7 process. Last but not least, the CPU is said to consume 270W.
