CTOnews.com, February 7 (Xinhua)-- economists at the Frankfurt Institute of Finance and ESMT in Berlin recently released a study [PDF] that Microsoft's product bundling is causing huge economic losses. The report points out that Microsoft's licensing rules limit competition and harm the interests of customers and the public.

When Microsoft promotes its products to enterprises, it uses solutions that bundle software and cloud services, which leads to higher prices, fewer choices, less innovation, and lower product quality.

In order to get more revenue, software solution providers represented by Microsoft usually adopt bundled business solutions, which can meet a variety of needs of enterprises, but this solution also integrates services and software that enterprises do not need. so that enterprise users will not use these software at all.

According to a 2016 study by 1E, a maker of application management tools, software waste costs US companies $247 per employee (currently about 1677 yuan), totaling more than $28 billion (currently about 190.12 billion yuan). If you count the UK and US markets, the total amount of software waste would amount to $34 billion (currently about 230.86 billion yuan).

The report analyzed 149companies from 16 industries around the world, covering 4.6 million users. The report points out that companies purchase a large number of software products from Microsoft, Adobe and other companies every year, but employees do not use these products and services in the actual process.

CTOnews.com queried the contents of the report and found that among the 35 applications tracked by the report, the list of the most likely to cause software waste is as follows:

Another important finding in the 1E report is that large companies tend to waste less software, mainly because large companies pay more attention to software asset tracking. By industry, aviation and education have the highest level of software waste (47%), while the United States government has the lowest (28%).
