CTOnews.com, February 7 (Xinhua) the Energy Rocket and Space Center of the Russian International Space Group recently held a technical meeting of the Committee of Chief designers to recommend that the life of the Russian segment of the International Space Station be extended to 2028. The results of the meeting will be submitted to the Russian government for final approval of the life extension plan for the Russian section of the International Space Station.

Vladimir Solovyov, head of RSC Energia and chief design engineer for Russian cabins, said:

"over the past two years, we have been busy repairing the Russian section of the International Space Station and carried out a lot of repairs and additional accessories to keep the Russian section of the International Space Station flying as much as possible and think of a lot of ways to extend its useful life."

"Today, our Committee of Chief Design Engineers discussed all the issues and results in detail and attentively. We have come to the conclusion that the Russian segment of the International Space Station can continue to be used until 2028. Previously, we thought [the section could be used] by 2024 (including 2024)," he said.

According to reports, Roscosmos Science and Technology Committee Chairman Yuri Koptev (Yury Koptev) will convene the committee presidium "on or after February 16" to discuss the proposal.

"eventually, we-RSC Energia, Roscosmos and the military Industry Commission-will reach a unified understanding on extending the operation of the Russian part of the International Space Station," Solovyov said.

For some time last year, the industry debated whether Russia would withdraw from the International Space Station after the director of the Russian Space Agency hinted that it would withdraw from the International Space Station project in 2024. However, the Russian Space Agency later informed NASA that it would not withdraw from the project until at least 2028.

CTOnews.com has reported that due to the damage of the Soyuz spacecraft on December 15 last year, MS-22 was unable to carry out the crew return mission, and Russia will launch Soyuz MS-23 to rescue the MS-22 crew before February 20, 2023, which also caused the original manned mission of MS-23 to be postponed and reassigned to the MS-24 mission.
