Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--

CTOnews.com Feb. 7, 9to5Mac learned from sources familiar with the matter that Apple continues to provide full reverse wireless charging support for the iPhone despite engineering delays. Apple had hoped to launch the feature for the first time in the iPhone 14 Pro series, but failed to complete it by that deadline.

CTOnews.com learned that the so-called reverse wireless charging function, also known as bilateral wireless charging, means that mobile phones can wirelessly charge small devices such as wireless headphones and bracelets. Reported that sources show that Apple engineers are stepping up the development of reverse wireless charging function, while optimizing its software.

Interestingly, starting with iPhone 12, iPhone already has at least some of the necessary hardware for reverse wireless charging. The MagSafe external battery also makes its debut with the iPhone 12. The Lightning cable can be plugged into the iPhone, and then the iPhone will charge the MagSafe external battery. However, Apple still does not explicitly call this reverse wireless charging.

The full reverse wireless charging feature will allow iPhone to charge any accessories that support Qi. For Apple users, one of the main uses of this feature is to charge the AirPods.

Apple is continuing to develop more advanced reverse wireless charging technology for the iPhone, according to sources familiar with the matter to 9to5Mac. Apple had hoped to add full support for reverse wireless charging on the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max, but the feature was not finalized in time at the launch, according to sources. Despite missing this goal, Apple engineers are still working on the feature and hope to launch it in a future iPhone.

Internally, Apple is developing a unique "line power output" firmware as the basis for this feature. The work of this firmware is a major aspect of ongoing testing and engineering of reverse wireless charging hardware. A key aspect of bilateral charging is managing the charging speed between the iPhone and other devices, including heat dissipation and charging efficiency.

Apple is also developing a special user interface for reverse wireless charging, similar to the one currently used for MagSafe chargers and accessories, including on-screen animation and sound effects to indicate that bilateral wireless charging has been activated.

Sources also warn that reverse wireless charging may eventually be delayed or completely cancelled. This feature has been in the pipeline at least since iPhone 11, and is a big challenge due to concerns about heat management and charging speed.
