Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--
CTOnews.com, February 6 (Xinhua)-- Microsoft shocked the world in January last year when it announced that it wanted to buy Activision Blizzard for $68.7 billion because it was the biggest deal in the gaming industry to date.
However, compared with players' enthusiasm for the acquisition, Sony and major regulators have raised objections and have even faced intense scrutiny from regulators several times recently, such as the US Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has filed an antitrust lawsuit against the company in an attempt to block the deal, and the European Commission issued a warning about the deal last week.
According to the New York Times, Microsoft's legal team believes that the British Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) is preparing to block its acquisition of Activision Blizzard and issue an antitrust warning, similar to what the European Commission has done.
Microsoft is said to plan to continue its efforts to maintain the acquisition despite potential opposition from CMA. Microsoft hopes not only to persuade the UK, but also to persuade the EU to make concessions to approve the deal, according to sources. He believes that if Microsoft can persuade the European Union, it may force Britain to accept concessions, and then Microsoft can combine these achievements to persuade the FTC to reach an agreement.
The UK's CMA is currently conducting a second-phase investigation into this, which will gather more evidence about the acquisition and investigate potential changes in industry competition, and CMA is expected to release its preliminary findings in the near future.
CTOnews.com reported that CMA also expressed concern about the "realistic prospect of significantly reduced competition for console, multi-game subscription services and cloud gaming services" in October last year. Earlier, CMA announced that it would extend its investigation into the $69 billion acquisition by several weeks, and its final report will be released on April 26.
