CTOnews.com, Feb. 6 (Xinhua)-- Rivian CEO RJ Scaringe introduced their new project, electric bikes, to employees at a company plenary meeting on Friday, according to Bloomberg. He mentioned that the startup already has a small group of engineers working on bicycle-related technology.

Bloomberg could not confirm whether the cars here refer to electric motorcycles or ordinary electric bicycles, but Rivian has so far patented the parts and design of electric bicycles. Scaringe has previously said that Rivian eventually hopes to enter the micro-mobile market, but the details are unknown.

At present, electric bicycles actually far outsell electric cars and pick-up trucks in the United States. after all, bicycles are cheaper, so more users can afford them. As a result, other companies such as Porsche have also joined this market.

CTOnews.com has reported that Rivian also announced layoffs last week, which will affect 6 per cent of its employees. The job cuts are the second major restructuring of Rivian in less than a year.

The company said the move was to refocus on expanding the production of its R1T and R1s electric cars, putting Rivian on a long-term profitable path.
