Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--
February 4 news, large technology companies seem to have reached the level of obsession with artificial intelligence (AI). Recently, CEOs of tech giants such as Microsoft, Meta and Google have mentioned AI dozens of times on earnings calls, and the most has even increased fivefold.
A Reuters review of the tech giants 'earnings conference minutes showed that executives mentioned "AI,""generative AI (AIGC)" or "machine learning" up to fivefold more frequently than in the previous quarter.
Alphabet, Google's parent company, increased the number of AI mentions on its earnings call to 45 on Thursday from 13 at the end of the third quarter, outpacing Microsoft, which made 39 mentions, up from 15 in the previous quarter.
AI startup OpenAI launched chatbot ChatGPT last November, sparking a race to integrate AI into more products and getting investors to bet on which company would stand out. Microsoft's investment in OpenAI, efforts to make ChatGPT widely available to its cloud customers, and other initiatives represent new challenges for Alphabet.
Industry observers say embedding ChatGPT in Microsoft's Bing search engine could give Microsoft an edge over Google Search, which has long dominated information search.
Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google and its parent company Alphabet, said Google would remain involved in the game, which could be a nod to the public obsession with ChatGPT. "We will do this boldly with a strong sense of responsibility," he said. "
Pichai also added that AI software will be a focus for Alphabet, which plans to publicly launch its own chatbot software, LaMDA, in the coming weeks.
David Heger, an analyst at Edward Jones, said Google was becoming more open about its massive investments in AI after remaining silent. "Google has been more vocal about how this will benefit almost all of their businesses, and they expect AI to be further integrated into other businesses in the future," he said. "
Evan Spiegel, CEO of social media company Snap, said on the fourth quarter earnings call that AIGC will be critical to the growth of augmented reality (AR) over the next five years, and AR will be critical to the company's business.
Spiegel said the technology is currently limited because artists have to build 3D models, but AIGC can speed up the process. He added: "Imagine your child playing with AR glasses and suddenly shouting: 'Oh my God, there's a pirate ship and a big monster. We can bring these things to life with AIGC technology, and I think that's really exciting. "
Mark Zuckerberg also called AIGC "an extremely exciting new area" during the company's earnings call, mentioning AI 30 times during the conference, up from 22 times in the previous quarter. Zuckerberg also said users can expect the company to "launch a bunch of different things" in the AIGC space this year.
According to Zuckerberg, Meta plans to apply this new technology to almost all of its products, such as generating images, videos, avatars and 3D assets. In addition, AIGC software will help content creators create more content in Meta's app. Nicola Mendelsohn, vice president of Meta's global business group, said in an interview that marketers can use AIGC to help them write copywriting for paid posts or create images and videos.
Zuckerberg said: "One of my goals for Meta is to be a leader in the AIGC field based on our research. "
Even at Apple, where hardware such as the iPhone dominates, AI is seen as an important part of the future. When asked by analysts about Apple's AI strategy, CEO Tim Cook responded that Apple was using such technology to support features such as car collision detection on the iPhone and Apple Watch, and said it would be applied to all Apple products and services.
Cook said: "We see tremendous potential in this area and can influence almost everything we do. AI is clearly a horizontal technology, not a vertical technology. As a result, it will affect every product and every service we offer. "
