CTOnews.com, February 4 (Xinhua)-- German luxury carmaker BMW will invest 800 million euros (currently about 5.888 billion yuan) to develop all-electric models for the next generation of cars in Mexico, according to the Wall Street Journal.

Tuyuan Pexels BMW said the move would help the company increase electric vehicle sales to half of global sales by 2030.

CTOnews.com learned that BMW said it would produce all-electric models of the Neue Klasse at its plant in San Luis Potosi, Mexico. Currently, BMW produces the BMW 3-Series, 2-Series Coupe and the new M2 at the plant.

The factory employs about 3000 workers, and the investment is expected to add another 1000 jobs, according to the data. It is reported that BMW will invest 500 million euros (currently about 3.68 billion yuan) to build a new high-voltage battery assembly center in San Luis Potosi. The Neue Klasse model will use a new round lithium-ion cell.
