CTOnews.com, February 3 (Xinhua)-- Microsoft said that KB5021751 updates will strictly abide by the rules and promise not to touch users' privacy when scanning for outdated or outdated versions of Office.

Microsoft has specifically added privacy-related instructions to its official KB5021751 update log:

This update collects diagnostic and performance data to estimate the usage of installed versions of Office to determine how best to support and maintain these systems. This data is collected from registry keys and API.

This update does not collect license details, customer content, or data about non-Microsoft products. Microsoft values, protects and defends privacy. For more information about our privacy policy, see Microsoft Privacy.

Microsoft said in the announcement:

This update is designed to help Microsoft determine the number of users that are not supported by upcoming (or upcoming) versions of Office, including Office 2013, Office 2010, and Office 2007.

Versions of Office that are no longer supported do not receive security updates that provide the latest protection against known vulnerabilities. In addition, unsupported versions may experience performance and reliability problems over time.

This update will be run once to collect diagnostic data. After this process is completed, no files from this update are left on the user's device.

CTOnews.com has learned that Office 2007 and Office 2010 are no longer supported from October 2017 and October 2020, respectively. Office 2013 will end support on April 11, prompting Microsoft to count the number of users who have not yet embraced the latest Office version.
