Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--
CTOnews.com, Feb. 3-the ambitions of Microsoft's HoloLens and mixed reality division have been blurred for a long time. Last year, Alex Kipman, the Microsoft executive who led the program, was accused of resigning after misconduct in the workplace. Microsoft has also been facing the challenge of US Army contracts, and its mixed reality Kit (MRTK) team has been severely affected by the latest round of layoffs. Now, perhaps to allay concerns in this area, Microsoft has issued a statement reaffirming its business commitment to HoloLens 2 and mixed reality (MR).
Robin Seiler, vice president and chief operating officer of Microsoft Windows + device Organization, posted a brief blog in the technology community and made a statement.
CTOnews.com learned that Robin Seiler first said that Microsoft is fully committed to developing HoloLens 2, maintaining regular software updates and releasing documents that are helpful to customers. She also stressed that HoloLens is one of the key components of the vision behind the "industrial meta-universe".
Although the executive did not explicitly confirm whether the entire MRTK team had been fired, she did hint that the project would continue to exist through open source contributions. Microsoft will continue to "work" to ensure compatibility between MRTK and HoloLens 2.
Robin Seiler also confirmed that AltspaceVR, which Microsoft acquired in 2017, is shutting down, with a focus on Microsoft Mesh. This reaffirms Microsoft's strategy of introducing VR into the enterprise environment, and Microsoft has previewed the plan among some customers.
Finally, the Microsoft executive mentioned that the company maintained an ongoing partnership with the U.S. Army, after several reports said the partnership was not going well.
In view of recent changes, Microsoft stressed in its statement that everything in HoloLens and mixed reality is making good progress. But only time will tell how determined Microsoft actually is to bring these technologies into the mainstream.
