CTOnews.com February 3 news, Google Chrome browser currently supports picture-in-picture features, but the only supported features include play/pause, return to tabs and close options. Google is planning to enhance the picture-in-picture feature by adding personalized buttons such as "previous track" and "next track," according to the news.

In the newly exposed Document Picture-in-Picture API development documentation, developers are allowed to fill HTML content in picture-in-picture windows.

This means that website developers can customize picture-in-picture windows, adding things like "like/dislike," subtitles, Timeline controls, and more. In the video call app, Google points out that the API makes it easy to break up multiple video streams into separate picture-in-picture windows and set up features such as sending text messages, muting a user's voice, or raising a hand.

Another novel example is the creation of the Tomato Clock tool (shown above in Tomodoro) using the more advanced PiP functionality. CTOnews.com understands that developers are testing advanced picture-in-picture instances in Chrome 111.
