CTOnews.com, February 3 (Xinhua)-- Apple today reported fiscal 2023 fiscal quarter 1 (Q4 2022) results, with total revenue of $117.2 billion (currently about 789.928 billion yuan), quarterly net profit of $30 billion (currently about 202.2 billion yuan) and diluted earnings per share of $1.88.

For comparison, Apple reported total revenue of $123.9 billion (a difference of $6.7 billion), quarterly net profit of $34.6 billion (a difference of $4.6 billion) and diluted earnings per share of $2.10 in fiscal 2022 (Q4 2021).

Diluted earnings per share is based on basic earnings per share, assuming that all dilutive potential common shares issued by the company have been converted into common shares, thus adjusting the current net profit attributable to common shareholders and the weighted average number of common shares issued. Here comes a new term "dilutive potential common stock", which refers to potential common stock that is assumed to be converted to common stock in the current period will reduce earnings per share.

Apple's revenue fell about 5% year-on-year, more than analysts had expected. The iPhone business had the biggest impact on Apple's revenue during the quarter, while Mac and wearable devices also declined.

The gross profit margin for the quarter was 43.0%, compared with 43.8% for the same period last year. Apple also announced a quarterly dividend of 23 cents per share, which will be paid on February 16 to shareholders of record as of February 13.
