CTOnews.com, February 2, this afternoon, Dongfeng and Xiangyang signed the framework agreement and district agreement of Dongfeng new energy passenger vehicle project, with a total investment of 5.31 billion yuan to promote the introduction of new energy passenger vehicles into Xiangyang.

Dongfeng Automobile Group said that it will invest in the construction of new energy passenger vehicles in Xiangyang, expand the scale of new energy vehicles in Dongfeng Xiangyang base, and then introduce Dongfeng's independent research and development of S31 full-life cycle models (annual cars and modified cars).

CTOnews.com learned that the two sides will build a supporting industrial park for new energy passenger vehicles around the project, promote supporting enterprises to gather in Xiangyang, help build new energy vehicle industry clusters, and speed up the transformation and upgrading of Xiangyang automobile industry.

It is estimated that by the end of 2028, the project will achieve a total of 45 billion yuan in vehicle sales, 28.523 billion yuan in sales of spare parts, and 10500 jobs for vehicles and spare parts.

Dongfeng Automotive data show that Dongfeng sold 685000 autonomous passenger cars in 2022, an increase of 32 per cent over the same period last year. In terms of new energy vehicles, Dongfeng New Energy vehicles sold 471000 units in 2022, an increase of 156.8% over the same period last year. Of this total, 424000 new energy passenger vehicles were sold, up 157.2 percent from the same period last year, and 47000 new energy commercial vehicles were sold, up 153.4 percent from the same period last year.

Dongfeng Motor has previously said that it will further accelerate the iterative innovation of new energy core technologies in the future, and will achieve 100% electrification of new models of the main passenger car brand in 2024.
