Intel said its final Optane SSD DC P4800X product would be shipped to customers by October. Nonetheless, Intel still has some products from other Optane brands.

Intel asked its partners to place final orders for PCIe 3.0x4 Optane SSD DC P4800X 375GB, 750GB and 1.50TB hard drives by May 30, 2023, and intends to deliver their final hard drives by September 30, 2023. Currently, Intel's 2.5-inch U.2 model Optane SSD DC D4800X will continue to ship, although it is clear that these hard drives will also be discontinued.

CTOnews.com learned that Intel officially cut its Optane business unit last year, but Intel continues to sell SSD, the Optane brand based on 3D XPoint flash memory, for data centers. Currently, Intel will continue to provide customers with its Optane SSD P1600X, Optane SSD DC D4800X, Optane SSD DC P5800X / P5801X and Optane SSD DC P5810X hard drives. In addition, the company will continue to sell its Optane persistence memory modules for now. But given that 3D XPoint memory is no longer produced, it is clear that the remaining supply of Optane-branded products will soon be exhausted.

The cost of the technology is high, so it is not popular in the consumer market. But Intel's 3D XPoint memory provides far more durability than 3D NAND memory. As a result, despite the high price, the demand for Optane SSD with 100 hard disk writes per day is strong in the data center.
