It is the third largest light source accelerator in the world and the largest accelerator in China. The area of the ring is about 20 football fields.
As an important part of the device, the HEPS storage ring consists of 48 improved hybrid 7BA (7 bend iron dispersion elimination) magnetic focusing structure cycles, each cycle length is about 28 meters, including 37 magnets and brackets, vacuum, beam diagnosis and other hardware equipment. According to the installation requirements and magnet distribution, each structural cycle is divided into 6 pre-installed collimating units with different lengths of 3-4 meters.
In order to ensure the beam accuracy, after the processing and testing of each system equipment, the precollimation unit assembly, equipment temperature setting, bracket calibration, leveling and locking, initial comprehensive measurement, determination of reference magnet, fine adjustment and locking of each iron, and further comprehensive measurement will be completed in the laboratory, so that the placement accuracy of the magnet on the bracket of the precollimation unit is better than 30 microns, and then transported to the storage ring tunnel for installation.
CTOnews.com learned that high-energy synchrotron radiation source (HEPS) is one of the ten major scientific and technological infrastructure identified in the 13th five-year Plan of the country's major scientific and technological infrastructure construction. Construction started in Beijing Huairou Science City in June 2019, with a construction period of 6.5 years. After completion, HEPS will be the first high-energy synchrotron radiation source in China and one of the fourth generation synchrotron radiation sources with the highest brightness in the world.
