CTOnews.com Volvo Cars is preparing to launch an "electric blitz" to convert all its main models to electric vehicles, including three SUVs and two sedans, and launch a luxury electric van aimed at boosting sales in Asia, two people familiar with the matter said.

Volvo expects to launch at least six all-new electric vehicles by 2026, according to two people familiar with the matter. Volvo aims to be fully electric by 2030, and its Australia subsidiary says it plans to sell only electric cars in that market by 2026.

Volvo, a Swedish brand known for safe and functional design, is making the change as it focuses more on customer trends in Asia and tries to win sales there, people familiar with the matter said.

Volvo has yet to release details of its plans. Geely declined to comment.

Among the new all-electric vehicles planned for launch over the next four years is a Volvo-branded MPV or van that will be based on Geely's Polar Krypton 009 model sold in China.

CTOnews.com has learned of reports that Volvo has moved development work on cars and upcoming models to its Shanghai R & D center. One of the sources said the center's design staff had tripled to about 60 and had recently moved to a new, larger building in Shanghai.

Volvo's first electric model, the EX90, was unveiled late last year and is expected to hit the market in early 2024. Other pure electric vehicles under development include electric versions of Volvo's main line products-the XC90, XC60 and XC40 crossovers, as well as the S60 and S90 sedans, according to reports.
