Honda said that in order to realize a carbon-neutral society, it is necessary not only to promote the electric transformation of products, but also to actively expand the application of hydrogen energy as an energy carrier and develop hydrogen energy business.

Honda pointed out that the company has been committed to hydrogen energy technology and fuel cell vehicle (FCEV) research and development since more than 30 years ago. Starting in 2013, Honda is also working with General Motors to develop a new generation of fuel cell systems.

Honda says the FCEV, which is equipped with a new generation of fuel cell systems developed jointly with GM, will be available in North America and Japan in 2024, CTOnews.com has learned. New generation fuel cell systems apply innovative materials to electrodes, improve cell sealing structures, simplify auxiliary structures, improve productivity, durability, and reduce costs.

In addition, Honda has positioned fuel cell vehicles, commercial vehicles, stationary power supplies and construction machinery as core application areas of fuel cell systems and actively cooperates with other companies. Especially in the field of commercial vehicles, we cooperated with Isuzu Automobile Company to research fuel cell heavy trucks, and cooperated with Dongfeng Motor Group Co., Ltd. to start technical verification of new generation fuel cell systems in the field of commercial vehicles.

It is worth mentioning that Honda plans to sell 2000 fuel cell systems annually from the mid-2020s and gradually expand sales to 60,000 units per year by 2030 and hundreds of thousands of units per year in the second half of the 2030s.
