CTOnews.com February 2 news, the Xfce desktop team recently released the "Xfce's Apps Update" monthly report, reporting on the progress of upgrading Xfce applications, plug-ins and tools in January 2023, as well as subsequent upgrade plans, etc.

The Xfce desktop team was busy in January this year, first entering the development cycle of the next major version of Xfce 4.20, with initial support for Wayland.

In addition to promoting the new version, the Xfce team has upgraded a large number of applications and plug-ins. First, the file manager Thunar experienced two version updates last month, and the latest version is 4.18.3.

The new version improves the batch rename, adds support for proper handling of resident plug-ins, and fixes several bugs to prevent crashes after closing the application or window.

The Xfce Screenshooter screenshot utility (xfce4-screenshooter) was also updated several times in January of this year, and the latest version is 1.10.3.

The new version fixes problems with intercepting CSD windows, fixes active window and area capture modes, adds support for saving panel plug-in preferences, and previews selected files in the save dialog box.

The Xfce panel (xfce4-panel) has been updated to version 4.18.1, which fixed the visibility of scroll window buttons and group buttons, fixed the synchronization timeout of clock Mini Program, and resolved a series of issues with task list Mini Program.

In January 2023, Thunar Shares Plugin 0.3.2 (which allows you to use Thunar's Samba to quickly share folders), Xfce Datetime Plugin 0.8.3 (showing the date and time in the panel), and Xfce Whisker Menu Plugin 2.7.2 were also released.

All of these versions contain translations of various minor bug fixes and updates, but the new Whisker menu version uses Thunar to add initiators to the desktop.

CTOnews.com also learned that Xfce's xfce4-notifyd notified the daemon that three updates were received in January, with the latest version 0.7.2.

The new version brings support for notification sounds, the option to hide panel buttons when there are no unread notifications, the ability to prevent some applications from sending critical notifications, allows you to delete the context menu for a single known application, exclude specific applications from the log, and redesign the known applications panel.
