CTOnews.com February 2 message, after installing the latest update, users began to receive full-screen Windows 11"free upgrade" notifications on Windows 10, Microsoft is reminding users,"Now unlocked, you are eligible for a free upgrade to Windows 11."

Windows Slatest reported that their computers running Windows 10 21H2 and 22H2 received the full-screen notification over the weekend, and since installing the January 2023 update, the notification seems to have proliferated, but one of their devices, using the August 2022 patch, also began to display the notification, indicating that the notification is related to the server-side update, not the patch.

This new pop-up window is similar to Windows 11's first boot experience, which appears to be using XAML. The notification attempts to remind users that their devices have unlocked the "Free Upgrade" offer and are eligible for a smooth upgrade experience, and that they can continue to use Windows 10 while downloading Windows 11 in the background.

You can click the "Get" button to start the download, or select the second button to schedule a later download. There's also an option that lets you "keep Windows 10." However, when the "Keep Windows 10" button is clicked, the pop-up window does not disappear.

Clicking on the "Keep Windows 10" option on page 2 of the upgrade alert does not return to the desktop, but instead opens another page called "Introduction to Windows 11," which highlights several features that can be used after upgrading to the new operating system: a new Start menu, tabs in File Explorer, new settings experience, Micorosft 365, etc.

Clicking the "Back" button on the third page of the upgrade alert also doesn't close the Windows 11 upgrade alert page, but opens another window titled "Microsoft recommends Windows 11 for your computer."

At the end of the fourth page, users can select the "Decline Upgrade" option, which opens a final confirmation window: "You will stay on Windows 10." This page is still the last attempt to induce users to upgrade, introducing Windows 11 flagship features such as tabs in Windows 11's File Explorer and reminding them that they can upgrade at any time by opening the Windows Update page.

Windows 10's full-screen notifications aren't new, first added to Windows 10 with Microsoft's May 2018 update, but this new notification is unexpectedly long and takes about five clicks to exit. And there is no way around this notice, and it may reappear in the future.
