Beijing, Feb. 2 (Xinhua) Gmail founder Paul Buchheit (Paul Buchheit) warned on Wednesday that artificial intelligence (AI) chatbots like ChatGPT will destroy Google, just as search engines destroyed online yellow pages (used to query corporate information).

AI will eliminate the search engine results page, which is where Google makes the most money. Most of Google's revenue comes from selling advertising, much of it on its search engine. In 2021, about 80 per cent of Google's $257.64 billion in revenue came from advertising.

Buchheit says it may only take a year or two for Google to be subverted. "while ChatGPT may not break Google's monopoly, technological advances will certainly change the way people get information," he said. The way I imagine (subverting) is that the URL / search bar of the browser will be replaced by AI, which automatically completes my ideas / questions as I type, while providing the best answer (possibly a link to a website or product). " Buchheit wrote on Twitter. He added that AI would be able to "immediately do what it takes a few minutes for humans to use search engines such as Google".

ChatGPT has been popular all over the world since its launch last November. Buchheit is not the first person to warn about ChatGPT's potential threat to Google. Last December, Google sounded a "red alert" against ChatGPT. Since the launch of ChatGPT, Google and its parent company, Alphabet CEO Sandal Pichai (Sundar Pichai), have attended several meetings to discuss Google's AI strategy in response to the threat posed by ChatGPT to the company's search engine.
