CTOnews.com, February 2 (Xinhua)-- US electric car maker Rivian will cut its workforce by 6% in order to save costs and cope with declining cash reserves and a weak economy, according to Reuters.

On Wednesday, local time, Rivian CEO R.J. Scaringe said in an email announcing layoffs that the company is concentrating resources on increasing car production and profitability. Meanwhile, Scaringe apologized to employees in an email for the layoffs.

CTOnews.com has learned that Rivian currently has about 14000 employees, which means the company will cut about 840 jobs. A Rivian spokesman confirmed that an email had been sent, but declined to comment further.

Data show that Rivian produced 10020 vehicles in the fourth quarter of 2022, an increase of 36% from the previous quarter, and delivered 8054 vehicles, an increase of 22.3% from the previous quarter. For the whole of 2022, Rivian produced 24337 vehicles and delivered 20332.
