Manage multiple ESXi hosts via vCenter Server

Through the introduction of the previous three chapters, there is already a certain understanding of virtualization, but that is some basic things, in the actual application of little meaning. This chapter begins with a formal introduction to the core of virtualization technology; over time, you learn more and more.

Join multiple ESXi hosts to vCenter Server

Step 1: Connect vCentr server with vSphere client

Open vSphere client; enter vcenter server IP address or domain name; enter username and password; click Login to pop up security warning window

Click ignore;

Since vCenter Server is still in evaluation mode, just click OK. Click OK to connect to vcenter server.

Step 2: Create a data center.

Before you can add ESXi hosts, you need to create a new datacenter, a container that contains all the inventory needed to operate the full functionality and environment of a management VM; multiple datacenters can be created to organize individual group environments.

Getting Started => Creating a Data Center.

Step 3: Add an ESXi host.

You can add ESXi hosts under datacenter objects, folder objects in the datacenter, and cluster objects under the datacenter. If the host contains virtual machines, these virtual machines are added to the inventory along with the ESXi host.

Select vcenter_DB Data Center => Getting Started => Add Host to enter the Add Host Wizard;

Enter the IP or domain name of the ESXi host; enter the username and password; click Next;

Click Yes:

Click Next;

If you have a product license key, please enter the key; if not, use the evaluation version and go directly to the next step;

If lock mode is not configured, click Next directly;

Click Next;

Click Finish to complete the process of adding hosts. You can determine the progress of ESXi addition under Task Progress.

Other ESXi hosts join v Center Server in the same way as above, so I won't go into details. The ESXi host I joined can only perform centralized management functions, and advanced features such as HA and dynamic resource management cannot be realized. The reason is that I did not create a cluster before joining the ESXi host, nor did I add the host to the cluster. I plan to make a chapter on relevant knowledge for detailed introduction. Each chapter from the subsequent document addresses only one knowledge point.
