CTOnews.com, January 31 (Xinhua)-- Google has announced plans to integrate Microsoft Microsoft 365 into ChromeOS later this year.

ChromeOS already supports Microsoft 365 and OneDrive Progressive Web Apps (PWA), but Google intends to go further, promising to "integrate Microsoft 365 directly on ChromeOS later this year to make it easier to install applications and open files."

From the screenshot released by Google, users can set up Microsoft 365 directly in ChromeOS, download and install Microsoft Home Bucket with one click, and transfer files to Microsoft OneDrive.

Google said more details on the integration would be shared "in the coming months" and that ChromeOS testers would have earlier access to the new feature in development and testing channels.

CTOnews.com learned that apart from working together on Chromium kernel browsers, Google and Microsoft are competitors in areas such as office and cloud storage, and it is surprising that Google promotes Microsoft 365 directly in its own operating system. After all, Google also has its own Workspace (formerly known as G Suite) office suite.
