CTOnews.com, January 31 (Xinhua)-- Chinese carmaker BYD began selling electric cars in Japan on Tuesday local time, according to the Nikkei News.

Atsuki Tofukuji, president of BYD Japan, said at BYD's first Japanese point of sale: "We are very happy to bring the car to Japanese customers." The point of sale will open on Thursday in the port city of Yokohama south of Tokyo.

In terms of price, BYD ATTO 3 went on sale in Japan today for 4.4 million yen (currently about 228000 yuan), and delivery will begin around March.

This is the first of more than 20 showrooms that BYD plans to build in Japan this year. The company hopes to have more than 100 dealers in Japan by the end of 2025. Only the ATTO 3 is on display in BYD's showroom in Yokohama, but two more models will be on display later this year. Users can test-drive the model, and the store has received a "considerable number" of bookings.

CTOnews.com learned that BYD sold a total of 1868543 vehicles in 2022, an increase of 152.5% over the same period last year, ranking first in global sales of new energy vehicles. As BYD's first model for the global market, the BYD ATTO 3 exported a total of 40014 vehicles in 2022.
