Thanks to CTOnews.com netizens Wu Yanzu in South China for the delivery of clues! CTOnews.com, January 31, according to South Korean media Joongang, although Samsung has suspended the use of Exynos chips in its flagship models, it has not given up on related research. The report points out that Samsung is developing a new Exynos chip for the 2025 Galaxy S25, which may be mass-produced using second-generation 3nm GAA wafer technology.

Samsung announced the first generation of 3nm GAA technology in 2022, while officials plan to launch a second generation of 3nm GAA wafers in 2024. CTOnews.com read the report and found no mention of whether the chip was mass-produced using second-generation or first-generation technology.

Samsung may use its first 3nm GAA iteration to lower prices, but it needs to focus on its second-generation 3nm GAA process if it is to beat competitors such as Qualcomm, which may rely on TSMC.

According to a Samsung executive who spoke on condition of anonymity, the date for the debut of the new processor has not yet been set, but development work on the Galaxy S25 has begun.

"We conducted a comprehensive review of the mobile phone business after performance problems with the Galaxy S22 broke out last year," the Samsung executive said in the report. "in some ways, the development of the Galaxy S25 preceded the S24."

The low yield of the 3nm GAA process was one of Samsung's main concerns. Fortunately, the company is said to have found a solution to the problem, increasing the possibility that Qualcomm and MediaTek may once again deploy a dual-source strategy, in which they use different chip technologies from TSMC and Samsung, but it hasn't been confirmed yet.
