CTOnews.com January 31, Reuters reported that Skoda, a Czech subsidiary of Germany's Volkswagen, will cut production due to chip supply shortages. It is said that some shifts will be cancelled in the production of Octavia, Enyaq, Fabia, Scala and Kamiq models.

In fact, Volkswagen was often affected by short-term chips last year, including Jetta, Taos and Tuguan models, but it has been improving since July last year.

Volkswagen said at the time that although it was widely expected in the industry that the supply of automotive chips would be greatly improved in the second half of the year, it could not rule out the possibility of adjusting production again in the future.

As most of the car gauge chips do not need advanced processes, but at present, most of the production capacity of fabs is occupied by advanced processes, so since the beginning of 2022, there has been a shortage of automotive chips around the world, affecting many automakers, such as Volkswagen, General Motors, Ford, Toyota, Stellantis, Hyundai and so on.

As for domestic production capacity, SAIC-Volkswagen previously said it would optimize production scheduling according to market demand, giving priority to ensuring the production capacity of products with high market demand, as detailed in the CTOnews.com report last year.
