CTOnews.com, January 30 (Xinhua)-- German brand Audi is in the final stages of designing the first all-electric e-tron RS6 performance car, which is expected to go on sale in 2024. It is reported that compared with the A6 e-tron, it will have a very wide wheel arch, low profile and "different" performance.

Audi's chief designer Marc Lichte said in an interview that the new electric RS6 e-tron will be built with unretired internal combustion engine models and will be similar in design to the A6 e-tron concept car unveiled in 2021, but with a wider wheel base and better performance.

The upcoming all-electric Audi A6 of the 2021 A6 e-tron concept car will be based on the Audi Advanced platform Electric (PPE) architecture and will feature a 100kWh battery pack with an expected maximum range of 435mph (currently about 700.06 km). The sports RS6 will use the same platform, but other than that, its specifications remain a mystery and need to be announced by the authorities.

"RS is a combination of performance and function," says Marc Lichte. "I like RS6 because I can put bikes, skis and a lot of things in it. That's why I like it."

Speaking of the 2021 A6 e-tron concept car, the chief designer said it represented "90 per cent" of the final production car, but as he pointed out, "this is a narrow-body version. [RS6 e-tron] will definitely have different bodies, which means different tracks and different wheel diameters."

CTOnews.com learned that Audi will launch all-electric models to the global market from 2026 and phase out production of its internal combustion engine models by 2033, so building an all-electric RS6 is of great significance for the brand and its loyal customers.
