Thanks to the CTOnews.com netizen Mr. Air, kinja for the clue delivery! CTOnews.com, January 30 (Xinhua)-- EDA maker Synopsys has joined a growing wave of layoffs at technology companies, revealing plans to cut more than 100 jobs in the Bay area.

The software provider, which helps design semiconductors, said it had decided to cut jobs and would end the work of 102 employees in Mountain View and Sunnyvale.

Synopsys said the layoffs, which took effect on March 31, are expected to be permanent.

CTOnews.com learned that documents submitted by the company showed that the vast majority of employees affected by the layoffs were technical engineers, designers and software experts.

Elsewhere, Amazon said it planned to cut 18000 employees worldwide and decided to cut hundreds of jobs in the Bay area. Microsoft said it would lay off 10000 employees worldwide. Hewlett-Packard says it plans to cut 4000 to 6000 jobs over the next three years. Meta, Google, Twitter, Salesforce and Cisco Systems have previously disclosed or implemented layoffs in the Bay area.

Technology companies have launched massive layoffs, which appear to be part of a broader effort to reconsider their workforce in the wake of the outbreak.

A number of technology executives, including Alphabet, the parent company of Google, and Meta, the parent company of Facebook, said they had hired a large number of people to meet the surge in demand for technology services and products as many people worked remotely.

After the economic chaos caused by the outbreak has diminished, technology companies have found that user demand for their services and products is beginning to weaken. Shrinking demand has prompted technology companies to cut staff and spending.
