CTOnews.com January 30 news, Samsung Electronics, one of the world's semiconductor leaders announced the completion of the semiconductor product carbon footprint life cycle assessment (LCA). It also received DNV certification.

Samsung's LCA covers certification of raw materials that pass chip manufacturing, assembly and testing, and complies with ISO 14040, ISO 14044 and ISO 14067 standards.

CTOnews.com has learned that since 2019, Samsung Electronics has obtained carbon footprint certification for 37 semiconductor products from Carbon Trust and UL, the former involving six Samsung memory products.

According to the official blog, Samsung will assess the carbon footprint of its semiconductors produced at all global manufacturing, test and assembly sites in China, South Korea and the United States. In addition, Samsung will expand its LCA to include water and resource footprints to provide detailed assessments and reduce environmental impacts.

Jang Sup Lee, CEO of DNV Business Assurance Korea, said: "Together with global business leaders like Samsung, we will continue to participate in creating a more sustainable environment in the future."
