According to CTOnews.com news on January 30, the Ministry of Commerce said today that China's online retail market will grow steadily in 2022.
According to the National Bureau of Statistics, online retail sales of 13.79 trillion yuan in 2022 increased by 4% compared with the same period last year. CTOnews.com learned that this included 11.96 trillion yuan in online retail sales of physical goods (an increase of 6.2 percent over the same period last year), which accounted for 27.2 percent of the total retail sales of consumer goods.
In addition, the Ministry of Commerce also pointed out that the national online retail market in 2022 mainly shows the following characteristics:
First, sales of some commodity categories achieved double-digit growth. Of the 18 categories of monitored goods, sales of 8 categories grew by more than double digits. Among them, gold, silver, jewelry, tobacco and alcohol increased by 27.3% and 19.1% respectively over the same period last year.
Second, the northeast and central regions have a relatively rapid growth rate. Online retail sales in the northeast and central regions increased by 13.2% and 8.7% respectively over the same period last year, 9.2 and 4.7 percentage points higher than the national growth rate, respectively. Online retail sales in the eastern and western regions increased by 3.8% and 3% respectively compared with the same period last year.
Third, the growth of online retail of agricultural products is good. Online retail sales in rural areas nationwide reached 2.17 trillion yuan, an increase of 3.6 percent over the same period last year. Of this total, the online retail sales of physical goods in rural areas totaled 1.99 trillion yuan, an increase of 4.9 percent over the same period last year. Online retail sales of agricultural products nationwide totaled 531.38 billion yuan, an increase of 9.2 percent over the same period last year and 6.4 percentage points higher than that of 2021.
Fourth, cross-border e-commerce is developing rapidly. Customs data show that China's cross-border e-commerce imports and exports (including B2B) totaled 2.11 trillion yuan in 2022, an increase of 9.8 percent over the same period last year. Of this total, exports totaled 1.55 trillion yuan, up 11.7 percent over the same period last year, while imports totaled 560 billion yuan, up 4.9 percent over the same period last year.
Fifth, the new model of e-commerce new business type shows its vitality. The e-commerce platform focuses on monitoring more than 120 million live shows, more than 1.1 trillion viewers, more than 95 million live commodities and nearly 1.1 million active anchors. The industry and category of real-time retail penetration continues to expand, covering more application scenarios and accelerating everything to home.
