CTOnews.com Windows 11 will get another big update later in 2023, and some findings in a preview of the system show that Microsoft is testing some new and exciting features.

A new volume synthesizer The quickest way to change the volume of individual apps and browsers is to click on the volume icon and turn on the volume synthesizer. Windows 11 's Volume Synthesizer is only accessible through the Settings app, though Microsoft is finally testing a new modern Volume Synthesizer that can be accessed directly from the Taskbar, similar to Windows 10 's Volume Synthesizer.

As seen in the screenshot above, users can quickly turn down or increase the volume of any open app, and users can also mute any app to make another app or system louder. The idea is to make sound management easier in Windows 11.

Experimental tool: a new way to unlock functionality? Microsoft is testing a new option called Allow Experimental Features within the Windows Update->Windows Insider Program page.

AllowExperimentalFeatures, as the name suggests, allows testers in the Windows Insider Program to turn on features that are disabled by the company.

Windows 11 will also get a new File Explorer with an XAML-based home page while integrating with Microsoft 365.

The new home page follows Windows 11 's style, with rounded corners in the address bar and search bar. The redesigned file manager is more like a Microsoft 365 dashboard or web browser than a traditional file manager.

CTOnews.com has learned that File Explorer has a new "Recommended Files" tab that uses Microsoft 365 to recommend similar files when users select any file. File Explorer can also show email threads, comments, conversations between friends, and when files are shared by colleagues.

According to sources, Microsoft is considering the idea of bringing Microsoft 365 features into File Manager. It's impossible to use existing shells, which is why the new File Explorer is designed with web-based XAML, allowing users to access Microsoft 365 's content directly in the file management interface and organize all content through a new feature called "tags."

Microsoft is still working on a new File Explorer, and plans could change, but deeper integration of Microsoft 365 into Windows 11 appears to be the company's long-term plan.
