CTOnews.com January 28, FreeBSD released its status report for the fourth quarter of 2022, outlining all the progress made by the open source BSD operating system project.

FreeBSD fell short of their fundraising goals by the end of 2022, but despite this, the project continues to promote new features, improve existing features, and continue to improve hardware support for BSD.

Here are the highlights of the report:

-the FreeBSD Foundation is still increasing the number, but it does not meet its fund-raising target for 2022. They are considering introducing organizations that can encourage investment in FreeBSD. Their target is $1.4 million (currently about 9.492 million yuan) (CTOnews.com learned that it was about $1.417 million as of press time).

-the release engineering team is working hard to launch FreeBSD 13.2-RELEASE.

-continue to improve FreeBSD's continuous integration (CI) infrastructure.

-Vessel work is under way for FreeBSD's integrated application container. The purpose of Vessel is to show application developers many of the features of FreeBSD in a Docker-like interface.

-efforts are under way to get the UFS / FFS file system to take a snapshot when running a journal-style soft update.

-continue to improve the WiFi / wireless driver stack of FreeBSD.

-make more improvements to run FreeBSD on RISC-V.

-update the default version of GCC to 12, and plan to use GCC 13 as the default version after the first minor version comes out.
