Beijing, January 28 (Xinhua) for some Google employees who have survived 12000 layoffs, Google is no longer a company that makes them feel different, the search giant is now just another ordinary big company.

Pichai cut 12000 jobs on January 20 this year, and Google parent company Alphabet CEO Sandal Pichai (Sundar Pichai) announced global layoffs of about 6 per cent. Pichai told the rest of the staff that they could work from home that day to deal with the "difficult news".

Employees cry an anonymous Google engineer who keeps his job works on the East Coast of the United States. He has been working for Google for more than a decade. According to him, at the meeting at which Google announced layoffs, some "surviving" employees cried. In the video conference that day, "some people are crying, they are wiping away their tears."

When employees who have survived the layoffs ask each other how they are doing, some joke that they are fine because they still have work to do, he says. A West Coast engineer who has worked for Google for more than 10 years at an ordinary company said employees who "survived" felt "angry and sad".

"We really believed that Google was different," he said. "now it's just another (ordinary) big company. Now, anything that ever made you feel special or really part of a mission, not just a huge money-making machine, is gone, and I think that feeling is gone."

Both engineers said some of the remaining employees were worried about further layoffs at Google. Google employees are often chosen by headhunters, but they don't leave because of benefits and professional sense of security, the engineers from the East Coast said. But now, benefits have been gradually "stripped", and layoffs mean that occupations no longer have sense of security.

"now, what is left of this company that distinguishes it from any other company, any other employer who contacts us and offers good jobs?" He added.

Support each other on January 20, laid-off employees of Google America woke up and received an email saying they had been fired. However, some people got the news from worried colleagues.

Nicholas Nicholas Whitaker worked on Google's personnel development team before he was fired. He said that when he saw his colleagues texting him that morning, he thought there had been a shooting or a natural disaster. As access to the company's system is cut off, laid-off employees can only bid farewell to their colleagues in other ways.

The engineers, who work on the West Coast, said the remaining employees were not told who had been fired. If they try to contact the laid-off employee, only a "unreachable" message will be displayed on Google's intercom system.

Several Google employees who have been fired say current and former employees have provided them with a lot of help, such as proposals to share resumes. Xoogler, a community of former Google employees, organizes consultation sessions on mental health and immigration. Whitaker says he is offering free meditation and mindfulness classes.

"I miss my colleagues," says Jarrod Ahat, a laid-off safety engineer. "We have been trying to support each other."
