CTOnews.com, January 28 (Xinhua)-- Chinese battery manufacturer Ningde Times opened its first factory in Europe in Arnstadt, Germany, on January 26, which is also the first factory opened outside China in the Ningde era, according to the German news agency quoted by the reference News Network.
The plant is expected to eventually produce 30 million batteries a year, enough to assemble 185000 to 350000 electric vehicles. Matthias Zentgraf, president of Ningde Times Europe, said the project invested as much as 1.8 billion euros (13.2 billion yuan), which he called "the first mass battery production project in Western Europe."
According to the plan, the plant will supply electric models from a number of European car companies, including BMW. According to Zentegraf, one production line has been launched in Arnstadt, five more will be put into operation in the future, and mass production at the plant is expected to begin in the middle of this year.
