New York City Mayor Eric Adams announced on Thursday local time that Uber and Lyft will be required to achieve zero emissions by 2030, affecting 100000 taxis, CTOnews.com reported on January 27.

Adams says New York City is committed to making the city healthier and more sustainable, and one way is to electrify the vehicles of big companies. The program aims to help reduce some of the costs of taxi drivers in New York City, and "no new fees will be charged for individual drivers."

CTOnews.com found that both Uber and Lyft are willing to accept this policy because both companies are committed to achieving their long-term goal of switching to electrification by the end of 2030.

In addition, Adams said New York City residents should try to drive electric cars, and they plan to support more electric vehicles through plans to build more electric vehicle charging infrastructure in all five districts.
