CTOnews.com, January 27 (Xinhua)-- SK On plans to expand its electric vehicle battery production capacity in South Korea to meet the growing demand of its customer Hyundai Motor.

According to reports, Hyundai Motor has begun to build new electric vehicle production facilities in Ulsan. According to sources, SK On plans to start investing in the Ruishan plant this year, with the goal of starting commercial production in 2024 to provide batteries for Hyundai electric vehicles.

SK On is expected to invest about 500 billion won to expand Seosan's current annual 5GWh capacity to 10GWh. CTOnews.com found that Hyundai's Genesis G80, GV60 and GV70 all use SK On batteries.

According to public information, the SK On Ruishan plant began to produce batteries in September 2012 and exceeded 5GWh capacity in 2018. At the same time, SK On began to build overseas facilities in China, Hungary and the United States, and paid more attention to these facilities than those in South Korea. SK On will expand its capacity to produce batteries with a length of 300mm.
